Maple Baked Beans | Dinner

Tailor these saucy, spicy Boston-style baked beans to your liking by

adding extra molasses or some TVP crumbles for a meaty texture.




Ingredients


3 cups navy or pinto beans

9 cups water

1 onion, chopped

2/3 cup maple syrup

1/4 cup barbecue sauce

2 tablespoons molasses

1 tablespoon Dijon mustard

1 tablespoon chili powder

1 tablespoon cayenne pepper

1 teaspoon paprika

1 ⁄ teaspoons salt

2/4 teaspoon pepper


Instructions


1. Cover beans in water and allow

to soak at least 8 hours or overnight.

2. Preheat oven to 350°F.

3. Drain beans. In a large Dutch oven or sturdy pot, combine beans and

remaining ingredients. Bring to a rolling boil on the stove.

4. Cover, and bake beans for 1 1/2 hours, stirring once or twice. Uncover,

and cook 1 more hour.

5. Alternatively, beans can be simmered over low heat for 1 ⁄ –2 hours on

the stovetop.
